I work in aged care I have worked in this industry for over 35 yrs.

There should be encouragement for young workers by wage increases, better condition for carers who deal with elderly residents in the home and in nursing homes.

It is hard physical work, and there is no incentive for the young to work in this field if they can get more in a supermarket or cleaning floors or serving petrol.… Read more

My husband had Alzhiemers and was well taken care of by Blue Care before he passed away in 2006.

I now have a Blue Care Package and may have to have more care in the future as I have Osteoporosis, Scoliosis and Vertigo.

My bones are very thin and if I break anything it can’t be fixed, so I may have to have help at night if my daughter isn’t available.… Read more

As a management consultant who has worked in senior management in commercial enterprise I have been inspired by the people who work in aged care and see their passion and dedication for caring for the elderly as an enormous benefit to the organisation.

Our ability to provide the right governance, infrastructure and support for these organisations is critical and I believe these reforms will deliver the foundations for organisations to become more competitive and to create a thriving industry for aged care in Australia.… Read more

I have being caring eight years for my mother who has Alzheimers. There is an anomaly in the way the aged care industry is operating. Improvements are required in the following areas:

1. Alzheimers is not fully recognized for the illness it is.

I work in aged care. I have worked in aged care now for over 7 years.

I have heard many great stories of our caring staff going out of their way, of patience and concern and problems solved. But I have also heard many stories and seen many instances of lack of staff, lack of resources and the reality of over burdened staff going to the brink and beyond of burn out.… Read more

I work in an “ageing in place” facility with 60 residents. Ageing in place states to be able to stay in a facility until the end of life unless more high care is needed. The residents that are arriving at the facility already have high needs and the staffing levels are not great.… Read more

I started working in aged care 5 1/2 years ago as a cleaner. I enjoyed working with the elderly so much I decided to become a personal carer.

I love my job, it’s very physically and mentally challenging but at the same time lots of fun. I love to laugh with the residents, at the end of the day when I finish work and I know I have made their day better and brighter then I can go home satisfied.… Read more
