I have been working in Aged Care for 10 years as a carer and in administration.
I think the work carers do is undervalued by the Government which is demonstrated by the hourly rate of pay.
For the most part the families of our residents appreciate and respect the staff for providing quality care for their relatives and also believe they should be paid to reflect the standards of care they and the Government demands through the Accreditation process.… Read more

Engineering to Care (Much better life):
After receiving my bachelor degree in Engineering in India I felt I could rule the world, but it was after coming to Australia I felt that world is too big to swim.

Working in Aged Care Management, I am puzzled why there is so much delay in progressing reform.
Clearly increased Carer burden is an unsustainable solution to Government’s lack of timely funding and provisioning adequate capacity; assisting Stephen with Max is just one example of the overwhelming majority of the 2.6 Million Carers in Australia.… Read more

Crisis in aged care demands urgent action
Source: Illawarra Mercury, 5 April 2012
Urgent action has to be taken to address the critical shortage of aged care services facing NSW.
The National Aged Care Alliance has estimated a statewide shortfall of more than 67,000 residential and community care places by 2027.
The alarming thing is that these shortages come as no surprise to anyone.… Read more

South Australia will need an almost eighty per cent increase in the number of aged care beds and community care places by 2027 or see a crisis for the state’s older residents, a coalition of 28 peak aged care organisations has warned.
